The PCAN project is funded by a grant awarded to the Regional Prevention Center in June of 2003 from the Kansas Children's Cabinet and Trust Fund. The
project is designed to educate adults and children in the 11 counties served about child abuse and neglect - what it is, how to recognize it, and how to report it.
Vision: Northwest Kansas communities where all children live in healthy, happy, and safe environments.
Mission: Building relationships that support coordination and collaboration in the challenge to combat child abuse and neglect in Northwest
Kansas communities.
Northwest Kansas Regional Prevention Center's Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect Program has a 3-fold design to accomplish the following:
- Bring awareness and information to communities and individuals
- Increase reporting of possible child abuse and neglect
- Radically lower substantiated reports of child abuse and neglect in Northwest Kansas
PCAN mini-grants:
Eleven mini-grants of up to $750.00 are available to county coalitions, one to each of the 11 counties served. The mini-grants provide opportunities for community involvement and implementation of child abuse and neglect prevention activities and projects.
PCAN serves Cheyenne, Decatur, Gove, Graham, Logan, Rawlins, Sheridan, Sherman, Thomas, Trego, and Wallace counties.
