  Thomas County DEC Task Force

What is DEC?

The Thomas County Drug Endangered Children's Task Force is a multi-agency approach to protecting children found in meth labs. The DEC has developed strategies to intervene on behalf of children affected by their parents' meth use or manufacture. Our response team includes law enforcement, child protective services, prosecutors and medical personnel. In addition to our response team we have supportive members such as, Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect, NWKS Regional Prevention Center, Smart Start, and Thomas County schools.

Why are DEC programs important?

Children in meth labs are at great risk for physical, emotional and developmental harm. A child in a meth lab may experience severe neglect, physical abuse and sexual abuse, in addition to the physical effects of exposure to the chemicals used to manufacture meth. These children frequently suffer from respiratory conditions, are malnourished and experience developmental delays. Thomas County DEC helps protect high-risk children in your community from these devastating effects.

Thomas County Drug Endangered Children's Task Force is a member of the Kansas Alliance for Drug Endangered Children.
