Kids Port Childcare Center is a part of the Smart Start early childhood initiative. The staff at Kids Port provides care for children birth through elementary school who require care during non-traditional childcare hours. Many parents who work in service professions or attend college have difficulty finding care for their children outside of the typical workday hours. The hours of operation for Kids Port vary with the need of parents. Occasional care is provided as the schedule permits.
The Kids Port facility also works as a learning laboratory for Colby Community College Early Childhood Education students. Jeanette Newjoye is the lead teacher and supervises a staff of over ten childcare providers.
Information

At Kids Port we use Conscious Discipline as a comprehensive classroom management program. Conscious Discipline is a program that teaches love for one self and others. As a result of the seven basic skills(Composure, Encouragement, Assertiveness, Choices, Positive Intent, Empathy, and Consequences), we can turn conflict into cooperation.
A curriculum that uses these seven basic skills is Second Step. Kids Port is incorporating Second Step that addresses the social and emotional skills of young children. Children learn how to recognize their feeling, make positive and effective choices, resolve disputes, and cooperate with each other.
